Master Translations is proud to highlight its participation in the GALA WorldReady Berlin, where two of its colleagues joined and one of them contributed as a speaker, engaging with global industry leaders on the evolving landscape of localization, technology, and communication.
The event reflected a sector undergoing significant transformation. Across discussions and presentations, a clear shift emerged: the language industry is redefining itself in response to rapid technological change, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence. Rather than presenting a fully formed future, the conference emphasized an industry in transition. We are adapting, experimenting, and collectively shaping new directions.
Rethinking Perspectives on Technology
One of the central insights shared during the conference was the importance of perspective in shaping how technology is perceived and adopted. Established assumptions can limit the ability to recognize new opportunities. As AI continues to accelerate change, organizations are increasingly required to reassess their frameworks and approach innovation with greater openness and adaptability.
The Strategic Role of Language Expertise
A key theme highlighted the growing strategic importance of language professionals. As large language models become more prevalent, linguistic expertise is emerging as a critical factor in ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and cultural relevance.
Localization teams are increasingly positioned as essential stakeholders in AI adoption. Their role extends beyond execution to governance: guiding implementation, safeguarding brand voice, and contributing to decision-making at higher organizational levels.
This influence is being established through:
- Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment
- Incremental testing through pilot projects and controlled experimentation
- A focus on measurable business outcomes such as speed, scalability, and risk management
- Early involvement of teams responsible for long-term implementation
- Cultural awareness

Our colleague and Master Translations representative in Europe, Luz Sanchis and fellow industry expert from South Africa Johan Botha representing Folio Online presented their expertise on a different approach to AI usage in China and Africa.
Moving Beyond Incremental Innovation
Another important takeaway addressed the limitations of incremental improvement. While optimizing existing processes remains valuable, it is no longer sufficient for long-term sustainability. The industry is being encouraged to move beyond efficiency gains and instead explore new capabilities and service models enabled by emerging technologies.
For example, advancements in automated subtitling and audiovisual accessibility—despite their imperfections—are expanding global access to content at an unprecedented scale. This highlights a broader shift: innovation should not only refine existing services but also unlock entirely new forms of value.

Community as a Driver of Progress
Finally, the event reinforced the importance of community within the language industry. Open dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration were identified as essential drivers of progress. Meaningful advancement depends not only on technological innovation but also on collective engagement and shared responsibility.
