Russian is a Slavic language and an official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria, Moldova and Romania. It is also widely spoken in Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia and Estonia. With 265 million speakers over the world, Russian is the fifth most-spoken language in the world.
Peculiarities
Russian uses a modified version of the Cyrillic alphabet that contains 33 letters, but is often transliterated in the Latin alphabet for convenience of computing.
